Miss M and I were invited to spend a few hours at Fox Studios for an exclusive event with Ken the Bug guy! Ken is featured in the bonus feature “Bugs of Camouflage”.

The kids got to meet one of the stars of EPIC  Nim Galuu
Ken the Bug Guy is the largest seller of “bug” in the United States- if not the world- Ken the Bug Guy has anywhere between 5,000-15,000 exotic invertebrates at any given time.
Nim Galuu is not thrilled with the Vinegar  Roon on him.

Thanks to Fox Studios and Fox Home Insiders, Miss M and I had a great (although a bit scary) time with the bugs to celebrate the release of EPIC on Blu-Ray/DVD on August 20, 2013.

DISCLAIMER:  This is not a sponsored post.  We were invited to attend a media event to celebrate the release of EPIC and meet some of the bugs that inspired the movie.  All thoughts are my own.  Do not use any pictures without permission.

Outdoor Movie Night! #NaturalHistoryMuseumLA

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

AHHH! One of my favorite movies is playing tonight at Exposition Park (Los Angeles Natural History Museum). The gates open at 6:00 with the movie starting when it gets dark enough. Ticket can be purchased online: Here, $12.00 per person. Make sure you pack a picnic and a  blanket to avoid soggy fannies.

OR you can get some great movie watch grub from two food trucks that will be at the event. The Grilled Cheese Truck and the S'mores Truck will be there to make sure everyone has a full belly. I recommend the Tater Tots!

Titanic & Bodies #BuenaParkTitanic #BuenaParkBodies

Titanic The Experience

The Premier Exhibition Center at the Former Movieland Wax Museum: 7711 Beach Blvd Buena Park, CA 90620

For hours, ticket prices and to order tickets online click HERE!

(or grab a $4 off coupon at the Starbuck right out in front!)

Premier Exhibitions, Inc has taken over the old Movieland Wax Museum, located down the street from Knott's Berry Farm, and across the street from Medieval Times, in Buena Park. The building has been transformed into 40,000 square feet of Exhibition space to bring two amazing AND educational exhibits: Titanic The Experience and Bodies The Exhibition.

(growing up here, this sign would let me know that Knott's was close by)

TITANIC THE EXPERIENCE

I don't think I need to go into much of an introduction. Most people know the story of the ill-fated ship H.M.S. Titanic. The ship, that boated to be "unsinkable" sideswiped an iceberg at 11:40 pm on the evening of April 14, 1912, and was completely swallowed by the sea at 2:20am on April 15, 1912. Her story has been told in many forms and has been romanticized by Hollywood.

At the beginning of the tour, each guest is handed a boarding pass. This pass hold the identity of an actual passenger on Titanic. It gives a brief description of who your person is/was. However, what it does not tell you, is if your passenger survived the sinking or not. This gives you time to reflect and hold on to this person through your journey to Titanic.

What an honor! Right before I began my trip to Titanic I was greeted by non other than THE  Unsinkable Molly Brown! She gracefully guided me through the entire exhibit, and I was sure to be on my best 1912 behavior.

(Mrs. Brown in her 1st class quarters)

(Model of The Titanic)

(With amazing detail)

Add
(Com'on say it! I know you want to!)
(If you were a young woman in 1997 you know this spot)

(a First Class Stateroom)

*The most luxurious  quarters on Titanic today would cost about $100,000)
(3rd class toilet)

* Indoor plumping was the latest and greatest! Many of the 3rd class passengers were unfamiliar with this technology, while 1st class were a bit more comfortable with the process of flushing. Therefore Titanic's 3rd class restrooms were equipped with self flushing toilets.

(3rd Class Accommodations)

(Boiler Room)
(3rd Class hallway)

(Ice warnings)

*Salt water freezes at 32 degrees F,  but saltwater has a lower freezing temp. The water on 4-14-1912 was about 28 d. Most people died from hyperthermia, not drowning.

(2.5 miles under water)

*Take the time to pause for a moment. The events of Titanic created a perfect storm that led to the death of over 1,500  men women and children. Now, look at the name on your boarding pass and find the name on this wall. It contains both survivors and the lost according to class and last name.
(The last Titanic survivor passed in 2009)

Bodies The Exhibition

* Warning: There are pictures of this exhibition which includes actual human bodies and internal organs.

The second exhibit at this location is Bodies The Exhibition. If you have not heard about this, please allow me to give a brief explanation. The models used in this display are actual REAL human bodies that have been preserved by using a liquid silicone rubber in a process called polymer preservation. This process preserved the specimens on a cellular level and showcases the complexity of the body's bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. In other words ANATOMICALLY CORRECT!!   I, personally don't have issue with this and would rather teach my daughter about the functionality of the human body as a machine, but I would like to place the warning for your discretion.

*I carefully took these photos with sensitivity in mind

(The nervous system)

(very detailed display of the network of veins, arteries and capillaries, amazingly beautiful)

(Guests are given a chance for a fresh start! They can stop smoking by ditching the smokes in this bid)

(subtle)

(Full body example of the digestive system)

(An ovary with Teratoma, rare tumors that cells grow abnormally which forms teeth hair and nails in other organs)

Thanks for visiting! I'll be posting some more things soon! But for right now, gotta go clean something!

Welcome!

Welcome to Kiddie Conciege! A blog that is dedicated to getting families out and about, trying new things and tying to do the best we can at this gig called parenting.

I'm a single mom with a young daughter (Miss M). Like so many parents out there (single, or not) we put a lot of energy into what we do with out kids. Let's face it, we live in a world where we are expected to be super employees, super spouses and super parents. WHO'S READY FOR A NAP?!

I want to bring, to my readers, the of best SoCal (and perhaps beyond). Perhaps some deals or discounts, and how to make the most out of the time we have together with our kids. Since I am a (former) educator, I'll do my best to throw in a bit of education into the mix.

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy.
